Forgot something in your 730? It can be corrected: here's how and by when.

Need to correct your tax return? You can, with a supplementary return
In brief

  • a supplementary return completes or corrects a return already filed
  • for the 730/2021: supplementary 730 by 25 October 2021, or Modello Redditi by 30 November 2021
  • in general you can file a supplementary return until 31 December of the fifth year after filing

It happens often: after sending the 730 you realise you forgot a deductible expense or an important detail. No problem: a tax return can be corrected. Depending on the case, the correction may increase your credit, reduce what you owe or leave the final tax unchanged.

How to correct the 730/2021

  • supplementary 730, with the related documents, by 25 October 2021;
  • Modello Redditi 2021, by 30 November 2021 (corrective return within the deadline);
  • supplementary Modello Redditi in the taxpayer’s favour, by the deadline for the following year’s return.

The difference compared with the credit or debt of the original 730 can be claimed as a refund or carried forward as a credit the following year.

By when you can file a supplementary return

In general you can file a supplementary return until 31 December of the fifth year after the year of filing. Any resulting credit can be used to offset debts arising from the tax period after that of the supplementary return.
